New Atmosphere Lyrics

A few people have asked me to post up the lyrics to New Atmosphere, so here we go:

I hear you breathing
Breathing in the new atmosphere
You’ll never feel it
But I feel like we’re close
So we’ll watch the air change
As the sun reveals itself
If we forget about the night
Then we could both be someone else too

Then we could both be someone else
Then we could both be someone else too

I know you’re seeing
All of this that we left behind
It tastes different
When you think it is air
But you know you can’t leave
And not say one last goodbye
If we forget about the night
Then we could both be someone else too

Then we could both be some else
Then we could both be some else too
But in every part of this I find you

California City

I'm currently making finishing touches to my second album, which has been a long process (longer than i'd hoped it to be).

In the meantime, I thought i'd post some stuff up here. Just stuff. Stuff that interests me. Here's something I heard about a while back: California City, a 320 square kilometre development in the middle of the Mojave desert near Los Angeles.

It was the near-Utopian project of a guy called Nat Mendelsohn, a comprehensive development started from scratch and consisting of seven different function-specific neighbourhoods. It's a dense network of roads, highways, cul-de-sacs, business parks and suburban streets. However, there's some key elements missing: people. Or buildings. Or anything. The city was mapped out, etched into the desert, but never built upon (apart from a growing community occupying one corner of the massive grid system). It's an interesting story. Read more about it here:

Metronomy Support Shows

We had a great time supporting Metronomy at Glasgow O2 ABC, London Alexandra Palace and Manchester Albert Hall. Wish we could have played more shows, but this means we're looking forward to playing shows next year even more.

I'm now joined on stage by the amazing Charlotte Hatherley (keyboards, guitar, vocals) and Sarah Jones (drums, vocals), who both play and sing on the new NZCA LINES record. Looking forward to sharing more of this new music next year!

Here are a couple of snaps from Alexandra Palace - more pics soon.

New Atmosphere video

I'm excited to be sharing the video for my single New Atmosphere, due to be released Dec 8th on Moshi Moshi Records. I conceived, directed and produced this video as part of my idea for the track, as well as making some of the sets and effects. All the heavy lifting, however, was done by hard working talented friends.

In November and December of last year I was playing guitar/bass/synths/piano on Christine and the Queens 's debut record, together with my brother Gabriel Stebbing aka Night Works, who also played all the above instruments and more on the album. Ash Workman produced and mixed it, and the first single from the album, Saint Claude, was released last month. Vive la France!

I did an exclusive mix for Fat Cat Records, check it out! Bonus points if you can identify the motivational speaker.

Recording for my second album is well underway. The dream team of Charlie Alex March producing and Ash Workman mixing is back.

This time, however, we're doing things a bit differently. Whilst the last record was made entirely in bedrooms, this one involves studios too. That means live drums courtesy of Sarah Jones (Hot Chip, NYPC), and live instruments such as brass, guitars ...

I'm going to keep posting stuff up here as work progresses. Here's a load of pics from the sessions we've already done ...
